Published by longbeachcaliforniaexpert at 3:18 pm under Nuts and Bolts Edit This

Wondering what to do this weekend? Here are some options in Long Beach, California, that won’t break your budget:

  1. Check out the sand sculptures at the Great Sand Sculpture Contest on the beach. The contest begins at 9 am and viewing hours are scheduled from 2 pm to 4 pm. Head to the Granada Launch Ramp at 1 South Granada Avenue.
  2. Walk, jog or inline skate along the Long Beach Shoreline Pedestrian/Bicycle Path. The paved path runs about 4.5 miles along the sandy coastline, from Shoreline Village in Downtown to the Belmont Shore beach community. If you want to splurge, rent a single or double surrey from Wheel Fun Rentals in Shoreline Village; pricing starts at $20 per hour.
  3. Ride the Ferris wheel at The Pike. Two dollars per person is a small price to pay for a little high-flying exhilaration.
  4. Play billiards at Yankee Doodles of Long Beach. Show up during the day on Saturday and you can rent a pool table for $5 per hour. Yankee Doodles is located at 4100 Ocean Boulevard.
  5. Rent a fishing boat from Offshore Watersports. This will set you back a little more, but you can split it with three friends and spend half the day on the water. You’ll find Offshore Watersports at Rainbow Harbor.
  6. Visit the Ranchos. Long Beach has two historic Ranchos, Rancho Los Alamitos and Rancho Los Cerritos. Both have free admission, but you might want to bring a few bucks to make a voluntary donation.
  7. Explore the El Dorado Nature Center. The Nature Center encompasses about 100 acres of unspoiled land, trails and wildlife. Admission’s free, but you have to pay $5 to park your car. The Center’s address is 7550 East Spring Street.
