Long Beach: The perfect base for your Southern California vacation

Published by longbeachcaliforniaexpert at 8:35 pm under Nuts and Bolts Edit This

So you are planning a trip to Southern California and you’ve made a short list of all the sites you want to see: Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, the San Diego Zoo, Mann’s Chinese Theatre, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Rodeo Drive and maybe even Vegas if you can find the time to get there. You pull out a map and there’s Long Beach, California, right in the middle of everything. Perhaps you’ve never heard of Long Beach or maybe you only know what you heard in a rap song. And you are wondering, Long Beach? Should I really stay there?

The answer is yes. And here are the main reasons why:

  • Cost. Relative to other parts of LA and San Diego, Long Beach has affordable hotel rates. See for yourself; look up the Coast Hotel on the water, the Beach Plaza Inn for beach access or the Guesthouse Hotel if you like a garden feel.
  • Location. Long Beach is an hour from Hollywood, an hour and a half from the heart of San Diego, two hours from Mexico, four to five hours from Vegas and 20 minutes from Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm.
  • Attractions. You’ll want to spend a day just exploring the city once you get here. The Queen Mary and Aquarium of the Pacific are worth checking out, as are the canals of Naples and some of the local shopping and entertainment areas.
  • Atmosphere. Long Beach is unpretentious. You can get dressed up for a Broadway-style show or you can hang out at a local watering hole and people-watch.
  • Convenience. Fly into Long Beach Airport to experience how simple air travel can be. If you can’t get into Long Beach Airport, the city is just 20 minutes from LAX.
